As a group of old friends embark on their yearly adventure, Juno decides that cave exploration would be the most-thrilling choice for the women to make.

The Descent paints a dreadful picture of what possibly lurks beneath the surface of the Earth in which is unknown by all that live above the darkness. Will there be any survivors, or will the creatures remove these women all from existence forever? The Descent delivers gruesome enough depictions for even the most avid horror fans out there. Due to the amount of graphically-violent deaths throughout the film, parents are strongly cautioned against allowing younger viewers to watch the film. The Descent approaches the idea of other-worldly creatures that may be in existence, and the effects of horrific situations on the collective minds of humans faced with such dangers. Seeming to be an ultimately-impossible endeavor to survive, many of the women face their ultimate demise never to be found again. These creatures have evolved in such a way that they do not have to see their prey in the dark, for that is their world. With only the tools they originally brought for their cave diving experience, they must fight off the opposition for survival, but it is not likely. Not only are they facing demonic animals that appear only to devour their flesh, but they now have to fight each other and themselves as well. Unable to combat or understand what it is that they are seeing, the group descends into madness and ultimately breaks apart. As the group becomes aware of another presence, they start dropping like flies.

Their first-time attempt at cave diving together would prove to be one they would ultimately regret, for none of them would ever imagine to run into what they are unfortunate to underneath the Earth's layers.
